Talk Talk Advert

I love this talk talk advert, it inspires me to have a go at light graffiti myself. I am certainly not going to do anything as elaborate as the advert, but I may use glow sticks to try to write in the air. Using a slow shutter speed to capture the whole picture. I also want to capture light trails from cars using the same method.

Two of my attempts at capturing moving light. I like the lines of light, but I need more traffic, so I may go to a motorway bridge at night to photograph with a tripod. I do like these shots though and want to try many more.

Placebo-Protege Moi

C’est le malaise du moment
L’épidémie qui s’étend
La fête est finie on descend
Les pensées qui glacent la raison
Paupières baissées, visage gris
Surgissent les fantômes de notre lit
On ouvre le loquet de la grille
Du taudis qu’on appelle maison

Protect me from what I want
Protect me from what I want
Protect me from what I want
Protect me
Protect me

Protège-moi, protège-moi {x4}

Protect me from what I want
Protect me from what I want
Protect me from what I want
Protect me
Protect me

Protect me from what I want (Protège-moi, protège-moi)
Protect me from what I want (Protège-moi, protège-moi)
Protect me from what I want (Protège-moi, protège-moi)
Protect me
Protect me

Protège-moi, protège-moi
Protège-moi de mes désirs
Protège-moi, protège-moi

Protect me from what I want
Protect me from what I want
Protect me from what I want
Protect me
Protect me

In English…translated…..

It is the uneasiness of the moment
The epidemic that spreads
The feast is finished one descends
The thoughts that freezes the reason
Fallen lids, gray face
Emerge the ghosts of our bed
One opens the latch of the grid
Of the hole that one calls home

Protect me from what I want
Protect me from what I want
Protect me from what I want
Protect me
Protect me
Protect me, protect me {x4}

Are we the puppets of destiny
Remember the divine moments
Hovering, exploded to the morning
And now we are all alone
Lost the dreams to like itself/themselves
The time where one had anything makes
We have a whole life to cry
And now we are all alone

Protect me from what I want
Protect me from what I want
Protect me…

This song is beautiful, I listen to it while doing my work and it helps me to think of new ideas. I just wanted to share its meanings and feelings with you. It makes me think of the amazing photographs of Ansel Adams, how they flow when you look at them.

I approach each of my photographs with an idea of what I want to achieve in my head. But I also work with the environment, letting it change the way I photograph the place with its energy flow. This is how this song has influenced me.

William Henry Davies-Leisure

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this is if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

This is my favourite poem. I was inspired by it in my first term to create a series of images showing how humans are destroying the natural environment. I thought it fit quite well. I once again love the images the poem can conjour up in your mind. It is beautiful. My work is inspired by poetry because I like to have a meaning in all of my images, sometimes hidden but with a little digging you can find it. I also like people to make up their own minds as to the meaning of my images, I do not like to steer them in one direction.

William Wordsworth Daffodils

I Wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
    A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
    They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of the bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee
A poet could not but be gay,
    In such a jocund company
I gazed — and gazed — but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
    Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
    And dances with the daffodils.
This poem inspires me especially when i go to the lake district on holiday. I love the description and how it celebrates nature. The poem forces you to relax as you read it, and you are carried to a place you love, which could be anywhere. I took some photographs in the Lake district inspired by this poem for my second term assignment.

Ideas for my Assignment

The Renaissance

  • Linear Perspective (window into space)
  • Realism in the arts
  • Light and Shadow
  • Beauty of nature

Take close up images of nature, to show the linear structure of it. To also show the beauty that is all around us. Get really close up to nature, the textures and colours so the photographs look almost like paintings. Use light and shadow to create depth in the photos but also keep the sense of realism in them. The close up image allows you to see things that you can’t when you first look at something, so my images will show the beauty of things in a different view. This is following the renaissance’s ideas and practices, and I hope to create a series of images that I could mount together like a painting.

Places to photograph

  • The Lake District
  • Normanby Hall

To photograph

  • Dew on leaves
  • Water (light flickering on the surface)
  • Tree branches (linear against the sky)
  • Rain (fallen on grass)
  • Sun (shining through trees and creating beautiful shadows)

In Noctem

In Noctem

Carry my soul into the night
May the stars light my way
I glory in the sight
As darkness takes the day
Sing a song, a song of life
Lived without regret
Tell the ones, the ones I loved
I never will forget
Never will forget

Ferte in noctem animam meam
Illustrent stellae viam meam
Aspectu illo glorior
Dum capit nox diem
Cantate vitae canticum
Sine dolore actae
Dicite eis quos amabam
Me numquam obliturum

Taken from the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince soundtrack!

This is one of my favourite songs and I am going to use it to create a series of photographs towards future assignments. The language inspires me to photograph a feeling, if you feel something photograph what caused you to feel it. I want my images to have a meaning, much like this song, I want them to make you feel different emotions as you look at them.
